Mississippi mom protects her three children by shooting knife-wielding man

A Mississippi mother protected her three children by shooting a man who allegedly broke into the family’s home wielding a knife. Carroll County deputies received a call from the mother’s husband, who was working in Greenwood. The man told deputies that a knife-wielding man was attempting to enter his home in the Gravel Hill area. Deputies said the suspect drove his truck into the home’s dining room area after he could not kick the front door down. While this was occurring, the mother and her three children were hiding in the closet, also known as the family’s designated safe room. The knife-wielding suspect was then shot by the mother when he entered the closet where she and her children were hiding… Continue reading »

Homeowner shoots chainsaw-wielding intruder

A shooting in December that left a man dead has been deemed as “justifiable homicide,” according to court documents. Authorities were called to a home on Beale Street in reference to the shooting around 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 14. Through investigation with witnesses, including neighbors, it was established that the homeowner and his wife were getting ready to enter their house when they received an alarm from their security system. Court documents say that the homeowner asked his wife to remain in their car when he approached the rear gate of their property. That’s when the suspect is said to have moved toward the homeowner while holding a chainsaw above his shoulders. The homeowner then shot the suspect after he continued to advance in his direction… Continue reading »

Jewelry store employee foils robbery attempt

Two men intent on robbing a jewelry store in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood got more than they bargained for when a worker opened fire at them with his own weapon. The worker said he saw a Toyota Camry pull up on the wrong side of the street right outside his shop. “I saw two guys creeping up really quick, so I was like, it’s a robbery,” he said. The two men, both wearing masks, came inside with guns drawn. The worker said he fired the first shot from his 9mm handgun. ‘They told me don’t move, or we’ll shoot. So, I started shooting at them because they had the guns pointed at me,” he said. “They were shooting back. It was going back and forth for like 20 seconds.” In their scramble to escape, one man left one of his shoes behind. The worker believes he shot this guy in the shoulder. Oakland police did not cite or arrest the worker. “They said, ‘You did the right thing.’ They said, ‘You followed – you did everything right.’ … Continue reading »

Cypress man chases off car thieves with AR-15

A homeowner’s security cameras caught a group of would-be thieves pulling on locked car doors just after midnight Tuesday in the Villages of Cypress Lakes in Cypress. “I had a UTV that was on the back of the truck, hooked to it, and they had got up into the side-by-side and were trying to take it off of the trailer,” the homeowner said. Motion detectors outside of the owner’s home set off an alarm, leading him to take matters into his own hands. “I told them, I said, I don’t think you want to do this,” as he walked out of his house with an AR-15 drawn and pointed in their direction. “I racked the bolt back, put the shell in the chamber,” he said. But he didn’t shoot. “They were leaving and that was what I wanted, I wanted them away from here. It’s something KHOU 11 News legal analyst Carmen Roe said the homeowner had every right to do under the state’s Castle Doctrine… Continue reading »
